Priaulx Wins Again

Well done to Andy Priaulx for winning his third consecutive World Touring Car Championship. With this win, Priaulx remains the only man to have won the WTCC in its current form and extends his run of consecutive major series touring car championship wins to four.
Going into the final two races of the season in Macau, Priaulx in his BMW was tied on 81 points with Seat’s Yvan Muller. Given the tight twisty nature of the Macau street circuit a decent qualifying session seemed vital, and when on Saturday afternoon Priaulx found himself down in twelfth with Muller up in second his challenge seemed over.
Fortunately though, Muller’s car lasted only eight laps of the Sunday’s first race before dying and refusing to restart. With Muller out of the equation all Priaulx realistically needed was a decent points scoring finish to defeat his other rivals.
With the BMW laden with full ballast for much of the season Priaulx has been the master at grabbing seventh or eighth in race one (which translates into a front row position for race two) and this he did yet again yesterday with a fantastic 8th/1st combination to win the Championship in style.
Clearly in the world of motor racing Lewis Hamilton has been taking all the plaudits this season, however in Andy Priaulx Britain has a three times world champion! Ironically given the relatively low profile of World Touring Cars its unlikely many people will have even heard his name.
Still, I’m sure at the current time he couldn’t care less. Well done Andy, enjoy the moment and good luck for next year.
